PRAYING
. . . for the city leaders!
And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward (Matt. 10:42)
Father, we have heard of those who have passed out bottles of water in the heat of the summer and coffee in the winter, of those who walked the elderly to the car on rainy days, and of those who gave lollipops to prostitutes just to say, “Jesus loves you!” To some of us, such ideas seem too radical. In other cases, such efforts yield fruit too stubbornly. We know we are to be kind to the unchurched. We have given food. We have rebuilt homes. We have conducted our conspiracies of kindness. But our cities are stubbornly the same. Even those we have helped retain their hard hearts and cling to their sinful ways. We are like Nehemiah’s laborers – the rubble is greater than we had imagined. We are weary, and with the wall half finished, the strength of the laborers is failing. We are conflicted. We can’t go on. We must go on. All our kindness will not change hearts. Only You can do that. Use our kind deeds to reveal Your deep love. Amen.
