PRAYING

...to hear God's still small voice!

And behold, the Lord passed by ... but the Lord was not in the wind; and ... the Lord was not in the earthquake ... the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
(1 Kings 19:11-12).
.

God, the noise of our world is deafening! Silence is rare. We have lived in the noise so long some can't sleep without it. Electronic companionship is easy manipulated, so easily controlled. At times, we hear Your voice. To some it seems so distant, like a dream. Like Elijah, we have looked for You in the trembling earth and the rumbling thunder - in the noise. Call us today. May we not ignore You as before. Even now, we feel ourselves restrained. We tell ourselves that we are free, that our worldly attachments are no stronger than the fragile threads of a spider web, yet we struggle to be free. We have no idea how bound we are, until we attempt to pray. The whole world seems to want to stop us. A pantheon of conspirators seem determined to keep us from praying. Keep calling, God. Rescue us. Free us. Empower us to drop everything and run after You like a lover whose only thought is a new life with the beloved. We confess to fickle hearts. Flashes of love quickly fade. We feel a fiery passion, then we recede into a lukewarm condition. We are weary of mere brushs with glory. Ignite our lives with enduring fire. Empower us to overcome our own objections, to crucify the flesh and rise to new life. We want to walk in the Spirit and realize our potential. We want to live out of Your world, bringing the Kingdom dimension into this time-space existence. It is not a new round of performance based faith that we long for, but a love-driven revolution in which we want to be a part . Amen
